Indonesia Finance Minister Purbaya says Pertamax price hike will have limited inflation impact

Indonesia’s Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed that the June 10, 2026 increase in the price of non‑subsidised gasoline (Pertamax) and Pertamax Green would have a minimal effect on overall inflation. The price of Pertamax (RON 92) rose from Rp12,300 to Rp16,250 per litre (about 32 %) and Pertamax Green (RON 95) from Rp12,900 to Rp17,000 per litre (about 31 %). Purbaya noted that Pertamax is not widely used for freight or public transport, limiting its inflationary pressure. He declined to give a specific estimate of how many motorists might switch to the subsidised fuel Pertalite, saying the calculation of any additional subsidy burden is still pending.

Transport workers’ unions warned that the higher fuel cost could erode the earnings of online motorcycle‑taxi drivers, who may turn to Pertalite as a cheaper alternative. The state‑owned oil trader Pertamina Patra Niaga stated that other fuel products, including subsidised Pertalite (Rp10,000 per litre) and Biosolar, remained unchanged.
