Indonesia Finance Minister Purbaya Denies Resignation and Vows Currency Stabilisation

On 4 June 2026 Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa publicly refuted circulating rumours that he would quit his post or be moved to the Bank Indonesia governorship. In a WhatsApp message he replied “Tidak”, and later told reporters “Enggak benar”. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi also confirmed that no cabinet reshuffle is planned.

Purbaya said the government will sharpen coordination among the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority through the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK). He announced a bond‑market intervention of roughly Rp 8 trillion to buy back sovereign bonds and keep the 10‑year SBN yield near 6.7 %. He warned that the rupiah’s recent slide past the psychological level of Rp 18 000 per US $ was driven by market sentiment and that banks may be asked to run stress tests should the exchange rate weaken further.

These statements come as the rupiah weakened to around Rp 18 040/US$ and domestic equity markets fell, prompting the finance ministry to take swift measures to protect fiscal stability and debt‑service costs.
