Indonesia Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa discusses education budget share and opens Yogyakarta public market

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa attended the inauguration of the Pasar Rakyat UMi 2026 at Alun‑Alun Kidul in Yogyakarta on 16 July 2026. He emphasized that strong public markets support local food distribution, cash circulation, entrepreneurship and job creation, contributing to regional economic resilience. ITB researcher Agus S. Ekomadyo highlighted the market’s role in “building economic sovereignty for the community” and cited comparative research on different management models.

In a separate briefing in Yogyakarta, Purbaya explained that Indonesia’s 2025 education budget fell below the constitutionally mandated 20 % share because disaster response spending in Aceh, Sumatra and other regions increased total state outlays. He stressed that the nominal education allocation had not been reduced, but the higher overall expenditure lowered its percentage share, and that the government would adjust allocations as needed to meet the constitutional requirement.
