Indonesia Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa pushes fiscal‑monetary coordination to strengthen rupiah and boost tax
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that tighter coordination between fiscal and monetary policy is essential to restore market confidence in the Indonesian rupiah. He explained that keeping government cash at Bank Indonesia, raising the remuneration the central bank pays the government, and improving the appeal of domestic financial instruments should attract foreign inflows and keep the exchange rate stable. “Sinergi penuh itu harusnya akan mengembalikan kepercayaan pasar ke nilai tukar rupiah, sehingga rupiah akan meningkat secara signifikan tidak akan melemah lagi,” he stated, adding that a steadier rupiah would lower production costs for small traders such as tempe sellers.
The minister also highlighted a strong rise in tax receipts, attributing the growth to robust real‑economy activity and the effective rollout of the Coretax system. Corporate income‑tax collections rose 23.9% year‑on‑year to Rp167.6 trillion in May 2026, while customs and excise revenues recovered and import volumes of raw materials grew 10.67%, reflecting healthy manufacturing and business performance.
