Indonesia food prices climb in June, rice and chili among items up

Data from the Bank Indonesia’s National Strategic Food Price Information Center show that a range of staple commodities rose in early June. Onion prices increased 7.25% to Rp59,900 per kilogram and garlic rose 7.47% to Rp44,600 per kilogram. Low‑grade rice (categories I‑II) rose between 2.8% and 4.4%, reaching up to Rp15,300 per kilogram, while premium rice grades slipped slightly, falling up to 0.86%. Chili prices surged, with red curly chili up 21.82% to Rp70,350 per kilogram and red small chili up 8.93% to Rp82,300 per kilogram.

In the market of Klaten, similar price volatility was observed for beef, chicken, eggs, chili, onion, garlic and cooking oil. Sellers reported that beef was priced at Rp130,000 per kilogram, chicken at Rp30,000 per kilogram and eggs at Rp26,000 per kilogram. The government’s Bulog agency intervened by distributing subsidised rice (HET Rp12,500 per kilogram) and cooking oil (HET Rp15,700 per liter) to help stabilise supplies and prices.
