Indonesia food prices fluctuate as chicken and chili costs rise

Food prices in several Indonesian cities are experiencing fluctuations, with significant increases noted in specific commodities. In Bandung, chicken meat prices have risen to between Rp42,000 and Rp44,000 per kilogram. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan has directed the Department of Trade and Industry (Disdagin) to investigate the entire supply chain, from production to distribution, to identify the cause of the surge and implement price controls if necessary.

In Surabaya and across national retail levels, red bird's eye chili has reached high prices, recorded at approximately Rp83,050 per kilogram. Other commodities show varying trends: rice prices remain relatively stable, with medium quality ranging from Rp16,350 to Rp16,550 per kilogram, while premium sugar is priced around Rp20,350 per kilogram. While some items like chicken are seeing upward pressure in Bandung, other reports indicate certain staples remain manageable in different regions.
