Indonesia food prices rise as chili and egg costs surge
National food prices in Indonesia have shown an upward trend across several key commodities. According to data from the Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS) managed by Bank Indonesia, red bird's eye chili saw a significant increase, reaching prices as high as Rp101,750 per kilogram in some reports.
Other notable price movements include:
• Spices: Red curly chili rose to approximately Rp55,200 per kg, while shallots and garlic also experienced increases. • Proteins: Fresh chicken egg prices rose by 9.49% to reach Rp35,750 per kg, though fresh chicken meat prices saw a slight decrease. • Rice: Prices for various qualities of rice, including low, medium, and premium grades, have trended upward. • Other goods: Prices for sugar and cooking oil were also recorded across different quality levels.
