Mass food poisoning incidents reported in Bogor and Cirebon
Two separate mass food poisoning incidents involving the 'Makan Bergizi Gratis' (MBG) program have been reported in Indonesia.
In Bogor Regency, 103 students from a state junior high school in Cisarua fell ill after consuming a meal package. Preliminary reports suggest the consumption of milk may be the cause, with one student requiring psychological assistance due to trauma. Local health authorities are currently testing food and beverage samples, including rice, eggs, vegetables, and UHT milk, to determine the exact cause.
In Cirebon, the scale of the incident is significantly larger, with the number of victims reaching 395 people. Victims include students from various levels (TK and SD), teachers, and service workers. Many are receiving treatment at ten different hospitals. The incident is linked to the Kalijaga 5 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), which is facing potential sanctions, including the dismissal of its head, following allegations of standard operating procedure violations regarding raw material processing.
Health officials in Cirebon have clarified that rumors of fatalities are false, though they confirmed one toddler experienced hypovolemic shock due to rapid fluid loss from vomiting and diarrhea.
