Indonesia higher education officials address research potential and corruption probe
Indonesia's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is addressing both the developmental potential and integrity challenges within the nation's academic institutions.
Deputy Minister Stella Christie reported that her visits to approximately 70 universities across Indonesia, spanning from Aceh to Merauke, revealed significant research potential in regional institutions. She noted that local universities demonstrate high capabilities in research and technology, suggesting that the national research ecosystem should be strengthened by leveraging these diverse regional strengths and the innovative capacity of Indonesian youth.
Separately, Minister Brian Yuliarto stated that the ministry respects the ongoing legal process by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the arrest of officials at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (UNSOED). The investigation concerns alleged bribery related to new student admissions. The Minister emphasized the importance of integrity and transparency in higher education governance and urged the university community to maintain a conducive academic environment during the legal proceedings.
