Corruption investigation at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman

Overview

Following a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sting operation on August 20, 2026, Unsoed Rector Akhmad Sodiq has been officially named a suspect in a bribery and extortion scheme involving the 2025-2026 independent student admission process.

Investigations revealed that the corruption extended across multiple departments, including the Faculty of Medicine, Law, and Fisheries and Marine Sciences. Authorities allege that Sodiq used a relative, MYN, to manage illicit funds for land asset purchases and provided authorization user IDs to facilitate the approval of bribed students. Vice Rector of Student Affairs Prof. Norman Arie Prayogo is accused of extorting 650 million rupiah from parents seeking medical school admission, while Head of Academic Affairs Eko Sumanto is implicated for allegedly receiving approximately 1.12 billion rupiah from brokers.

The KPK has named six suspects: Sodiq, Prayogo, Sumanto, and three private parties identified as Dian Mulia Wardhana, Adhi Wiharto, and Mulyono (alias Nono). Evidence suggests approximately 73 student quotas were managed through illicit payments. The KPK has seized approximately 764 million rupiah in cash and bank balances.

On August 23, 2026, the KPK detained Akhmad Sodiq. In response, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology appointed Professor Ali Rokhman as the Acting Rector to ensure academic continuity.

In the wake of the Unsoed case, the KPK has issued a circular to tighten oversight of independent selection paths at state universities to prevent bribery. KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto noted that the independent selection mechanism is the “most vulnerable to irregularities.” Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo suggested such practices might not be isolated to Unsoed, urging institutions to implement systemic improvements to protect educational integrity.
