Indonesia Accelerates AI Development Across Universities and Government

Prof. Antonius Rachmat Chrismanto was inaugurated as the youngest full professor of Artificial Intelligence at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) in Yogyakarta, emphasizing deep learning, large language models and text‑mining applications for education and industry. He noted, “Without proper processing, valuable information is hard to turn into usable knowledge.”

Jakarta’s provincial government, led by Governor Pramono Anung, launched the Jakarta RISE#20 initiative to embed AI, data analytics and digital technologies in city management, aiming to place the capital among the world’s 20 largest global cities by 2045. The governor said, “AI is now a necessity for cities that want to compete globally.”

The University of Indonesia (UI) announced a partnership with China’s Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) to establish a joint digital science centre for research on AI, data security and digital transformation, as well as student and faculty exchanges.

The U.S. National Security Agency released mobile‑device security guidelines, while Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) issued recommendations for safe mobile‑banking practices, both aimed at protecting users from cyber‑crime.

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka urged Indonesian youth to master AI, stating that “AI is no longer a future technology; it is part of today’s life that young people must master.”
