Indonesia hit by 6.8 quake in North Sulawesi and aftershocks in Central Sulawesi

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred offshore near Tahuna in the Sangihe Islands of North Sulawesi at a depth of 10 km. The BMKG reported no tsunami risk. The tremor was felt in Toli‑Toli, Gorontalo and surrounding areas with intensity II‑III on the MMI scale.

Later, a shallow magnitude 4.0 quake struck the district of Sigi in Central Sulawesi, at a depth of 4 km. It was felt by residents but caused no reported damage. The event is part of an ongoing aftershock series following a larger 6.7 magnitude quake on 16 June 2026, which has generated more than a thousand aftershocks.
