Indonesia hosts Super Garuda Shield 2026 military exercise

The 2026 Super Garuda Shield multilateral military exercise is currently underway in Indonesia, involving 4,743 soldiers from 21 participating nations. The drills aim to enhance operational preparedness, unify procedures among international armed forces, and strengthen defense diplomacy.

Key activities include airborne assault training in South Sumatra, where personnel from Indonesia, the United States, India, Japan, and France conducted parachute jumps from approximately 1,200 feet. The exercise also features Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) modules, utilizing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters to provide close air support for ground forces.

In the Lampung province, marines from Indonesia, the United States, Japan, and South Korea participated in the Infantry Marksmanship Training Program (IMTP), focusing on precision shooting at both stationary and mobile targets. The exercise spans multiple locations, including Bandung, Jakarta, Lampung, South Sumatra, and North Kalimantan, covering modules such as cyber warfare, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief.
