Jakarta hosts 5th World Conference on Creative Economy
The 5th World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026 opened in Jakarta, bringing together delegates from over 80 countries and seven international organizations to strengthen the global creative ecosystem. The forum, themed ‘Inclusively Creative, Collective Continuity’, aims to position the creative economy as a primary driver for global development and job creation, particularly within the Global South.
A key outcome of the conference is the ‘Jakarta Vision on Creative Economy’, a strategic document focused on four main pillars: the integration of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, sustainable development through circular and regenerative design, the protection of intellectual property and creative rights, and the promotion of inclusive ecosystems. Indonesia plans to propose this vision as a resolution to the United Nations General Assembly in December 2026.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya highlighted the sector's significant economic impact, noting that global creative exports reached USD 1.7 trillion in 2024. In Indonesia, the sector contributes approximately 7.38 percent to the national GDP and employs 27.4 million people. The conference also serves as a business hub, facilitating matching sessions between local creators and international investors, including major entities such as Netflix and Tencent, to encourage cross-border investment and co-productions.
