WCCE 2026: Jakarta Vision gains international support
Overview
The 5th World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, held in Jakarta under the theme ‘Inclusively Creative, Collective Continuity’, has gained significant momentum. Following its opening on October 21, which brought together delegates from over 80 countries to discuss the sector's role in global development, the conference has successfully secured support from 38 nations for the ‘Jakarta Vision on Creative Economy’. Participating countries include Russia, Iran, Ukraine, Malaysia, Jordan, and Australia.
The ‘Jakarta Vision’ focuses on four pillars: artificial intelligence and digital transformation, sustainable development through circular and regenerative design, the protection of intellectual property, and the promotion of inclusive ecosystems. Indonesia intends to present this vision as a formal resolution to the United Nations General Assembly in New York in December 2026 to advocate for a strengthened global creative ecosystem.
By October 23, the conference resulted in the formal adoption of the ‘Jakarta Vision on Creative Economy’. The event featured 183 speakers and attracted over 20,000 visitors to the Creativillage exhibitions. The vision’s strategic pillars include expanding digital technology access, protecting intellectual property, fostering sustainable collaboration, and increasing financing for creative practitioners.
On a domestic level, the Indonesian Creative Cities Network (ICCN), the Ministry of Creative Economy, and TVRI organized the ‘Suara Ekraf Indonesia’ forum to develop the ‘Manifesto Suara Ekraf Indonesia’. Regional economic shifts were also noted, such as NTB Governor Lalu Iqbal reporting that NTB's economy grew by 10.42 percent in the first half of 2026, driven by tourism and the creative economy.
