Indonesia inaugurates Jlantah Dam to boost agriculture and water supply

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Jlantah Dam in Karanganyar, Central Java, on 10 July 2026. The dam can irrigate about 1,500 ha of existing farmland and enable a third rice‑crop cycle, potentially yielding up to 27 000 tonnes of padi per year. It will also supply raw water at roughly 125 L per second and includes provisions for a small hydropower plant.

Members of the House’s Commission V, led by MP Mori Hanafi, urged the government to fast‑track irrigation networks for newly built dams such as Meninting, Mila and Tanju. They warned that without adequate canals the dams cannot fully deliver flood control, irrigation, drinking‑water and energy benefits, and called for priority funding of the missing infrastructure.
