Indonesia inaugurates Perintis Garuda bridges to boost rural connectivity
President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated thousands of Perintis Garuda bridges and clean water sources across various regions in Indonesia. This infrastructure initiative aims to improve connectivity and access for remote communities.
In East Java, Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa noted that the bridges, including one in Nganjuk, connect 40 villages in the Pace and Loceret districts. These structures are designed to facilitate movement to schools, healthcare facilities, and religious sites, while also supporting the distribution of agricultural and livestock products to boost rural economies. A total of 270 Perintis Garuda bridges have been constructed in East Java.
In South Banjarmasin, the Perintis Garuda Bridge in Handil Bujur has provided much-needed access to residents of Basirih, who had faced limited crossing options for decades. The new bridge supports daily activities for students, farmers, and local economic participants.
