Indonesia issues new rules for BPJS Kesehatan funding injections
Indonesian Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara has issued Ministry of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 73 of 2026, establishing guidelines for providing additional funding injections to BPJS Kesehatan to ensure the sustainability of the national health insurance program.
The regulation, effective as of October 8, 2026, allows the government to take special measures to address social security fund (DJS) shortages. The mechanism for these injections will be determined through coordination between the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Health, the Chairman of the National Social Security Council (DJSN), and the President Director of BPJS Kesehatan.
The move comes as the health insurance fund faces cash flow pressures. As of September 2026, collected premiums totaled Rp118 trillion, while required benefit payments reached Rp132 trillion. The government has prepared a Rp20 trillion injection, with Rp10 trillion allocated for October and Rp10 trillion for November 2026, sourced from the 2026 state budget.
