President Prabowo Subianto pushes hunger aid, police briefing and finance reforms

President Prabowo Subianto said that "nothing is more dire than hunger" while launching the free nutritious meal (MBG) program for children, farmers and fishers, warning that unattended hunger can lead to death. He defended the program against recent protests and cited UN forecasts of 500‑700 million people facing hunger worldwide.

The president also met Indonesian National Police chief Listyo Sigit, who briefed him on public‑safety conditions and the police’s preparations for the 2026 Bhayangkara Day celebrations, emphasizing community‑service activities across the country.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudi Sadewa stated the Ministry of Finance has no plans to acquire shares in the Indonesia Stock Exchange despite new legislation allowing state institutions to become shareholders, noting that the law also permits Bank Indonesia and the sovereign investment agency Danantara to hold stakes while preserving the exchange’s independence.

Separately, the Trade Ministry reported a shipment of value‑added structural steel worth US$216,000 to Canada, highlighting Indonesia’s push to move up the manufacturing value chain and expand high‑tech exports.
