Indonesia Labour Minister Yassierli Announces Internship Surge

Indonesia's Ministry of Labour reported that 300,000 university graduates applied for the 50,000 internship positions offered in Phase 1 of the MagangHub National Internship Programme for 2026. Minister Yassierli said the first batch is part of a total capacity of 150,000 spots across three stages, urging applicants to consider competition levels when choosing companies.

The minister also stressed that social dialogue among government, employers and workers' unions is essential for solving labour‑market issues, citing the Tripartite National Labour Cooperation (LKS) which held 41 worker‑body meetings and 20 plenary sessions between 2023 and 2026 and produced recommendations on preventing mass layoffs, strengthening inspection and revising outsourcing rules.

Additionally, Yassierli affirmed that the government will oversee labour disputes through a stepped process of clarification, investigation and supervisory action. He referenced the case of Hillcon Jaya Shakti workers in Morowali who claim unpaid wages and holiday bonuses since February 2026, noting that regional inspectors will act first and central supervisors will intervene if needed.
