Indonesia Labour Minister Yassierli Calls for Future‑Ready Skills to Equip Youth for New Job Market

Indonesia’s Minister of Labour, Yassierli, addressed the Global Parenting Summit 2026 in Bandung, urging the country’s youth to acquire future‑ready skills and strong character to navigate a rapidly changing labour market. He highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence, automation, digital transformation, the green economy and remote work, noting that the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 predicts 22 % of jobs will be affected by 2030, with about 170 million new jobs created and 92 million displaced.

Yassierli stressed that beyond technical know‑how, competencies such as lifelong learning, adaptability, empathy, communication, leadership and teamwork are increasingly valuable as machines take on more routine tasks. He called on families and educational institutions to play an active role in building these skills and character traits. The minister linked the development of a skilled workforce to Indonesia’s ambition to become one of the world’s five largest economies by 2045, targeting a per‑capita income of USD 23 000‑30 300.

The speech positioned future‑skill development as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s human‑resource strategy for the next two decades.
