Indonesia expands National Internship Program to 150,000 participants

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Labour, has opened the 2026 edition of the National Internship Program (PMN), an initiative launched by President Prabowo Subianto in 2025. The quota has been raised to 150,000 interns who will be placed in about 8,800 state‑owned and private companies for six‑month placements.

Interns, primarily recent university graduates but also including people with disabilities and other professional backgrounds, will receive a stipend of Rp3.5 million to Rp6 million per month, calibrated to the minimum wage of the locality where they work. The program provides mentorship by senior employees and aims to improve skill readiness for the labour market. In its first year, roughly 30 % of participants secured permanent jobs, with another 30 % in the recruitment pipeline.

The expansion seeks to address the government's ongoing challenge of absorbing university graduates into productive employment and to generate a pipeline of skilled workers for both public‑sector and private‑sector firms.
