Indonesia launches free integrated schools in Batam and Cirebon

Indonesia is rolling out the Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi (Integrated People’s School) model, offering free K‑12 education, boarding and international‑standard facilities to children from low‑income families. In Batam, the city will build a campus on about 18.5 ha in Rempang, combining elementary, middle and high school levels under one roof. Mayor Amsakar Achmad said the project, part of President Prabowo Subianto’s anti‑poverty strategy, will prepare a globally competitive generation.

In West Java’s Cirebon regency, Regent Imron confirmed that the first integrated school there will admit 540 students from Cirebon, Majalengka and Kuningan. The facility includes four dormitory blocks, classrooms, laboratories, a dining hall, a mosque and full utilities. Authorities opened a school‑environment orientation and an open‑house for the 2026/2027 academic year, emphasizing mentorship and character development as a means to break inter‑generational poverty.
