Indonesia launches mandatory B50 biodiesel program to cut diesel imports

Indonesia will introduce a compulsory B50 biodiesel blend nationwide starting 1 July 2026. The policy is aimed at strengthening the country’s energy independence by reducing reliance on imported diesel and is projected to save about 8.84 billion USD in foreign exchange in the first year. The rollout is part of a broader push for low‑emission agriculture and greener fuel use across the nation.

The initiative aligns with ASEAN efforts to promote science, technology and innovation cooperation, but the primary focus is Indonesia’s domestic transition to more sustainable energy and agriculture practices.
