Indonesia launches national trials for JKN healthcare reforms

Indonesia is conducting national pilot trials for several strategic reforms within the National Health Insurance (JKN) program. These reforms include the implementation of Service Capability-Based Referral (RBKP), Standard Inpatient Class (KRIS), and the Indonesian Diagnosis Related Groups (iDRG).

Four regions have been designated as national trial locations: Bandung, Makassar, Tulungagung, and Muara Enim. In Bandung, BPJS Kesehatan officials emphasized that the readiness of local governments and healthcare facilities is essential for success. The Ministry of Health noted that the RBKP policy will rely heavily on primary healthcare centers (Puskesmas) to ensure patients receive appropriate referrals based on their specific needs.

In Tulungagung, East Java, health officials visited various facilities, including RSUD dr. Iskak and local health centers, to assess readiness. BPJS Kesehatan stated that these trials aim to improve service quality and expand public access to healthcare through better coordination and integration of services.
