Indonesia launches pilot to deliver social aid through village cooperatives

Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) announced a pilot project that will distribute the cash‑conditional family hope program (PKH) and non‑cash food assistance (BPNT) via the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (KDMP) network at 900 village‑level locations. The plan, based on Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2025, will use bank agents from the state‑bank association (Himbara) to operate at KDMP outlets while PT Pos Indonesia will retain its role delivering aid to remote (3T) areas and vulnerable recipients such as the elderly and persons with severe disabilities. The pilot does not change existing regulations and is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, with initial testing aimed for August. The programme also seeks to encourage beneficiaries to become KDMP members and sell their products through the cooperatives.
