Indonesia launches Rp 1.54 trillion transport discount stimulus for school holidays and New Year

The Indonesian government announced a transport‑price stimulus totalling Rp 1.54 trillion to support mobility during the 2026 school‑holiday period and the 2026/2027 Christmas–New‑Year break. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the scheme offers a 30% discount on economy‑class train tickets from 20 June to 5 July 2026, a 30% cut on basic Pelni ship fares from 20 June to 15 August 2026, and free port‑service fees for passenger ferries over the same dates. A 100% government‑subsidised VAT on domestic economy‑class air tickets runs from 24 June to 5 July 2026. Similar discounts are scheduled for the NataRu period (22 December 2026–4 January 2027 for trains and 17 December 2026–10 January 2027 for ships, with free port services and the same VAT subsidy for flights).

The programme allocates Rp 190.5 billion for train discounts (targeting about 3 million passengers), Rp 472.7 billion for the air‑ticket subsidy (about 2.3 million passengers), and Rp 161.4 billion plus Rp 722 billion for the NataRu phase, aiming to ease travel costs, boost tourism and support broader economic activity during peak mobility periods.
