GIIAS Surabaya 2026 sets attendance records as Chery launches new EV

The GIIAS Surabaya 2026 automotive exhibition concluded with record-breaking attendance, drawing 45,763 visitors to the Grand City Convex. The event featured 37 vehicle brands, including 26 passenger car manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, BYD, and Wuling, alongside various two-wheel and commercial vehicle brands.

Chery Indonesia utilized the event to officially launch the Chery Q electric vehicle in the East Java region. The compact EV is offered at prices starting from Rp262.4 million OTR Surabaya. Chery presented a “Chery House” concept showcasing five electrification models, including the J6T CSH, TIGGO 8 CSH, TIGGO 9 CSH, and TIGGO Cross CSH.

Regarding policy, Indonesian officials indicated that electric motorcycle incentives may begin in September 2026, pending the issuance of a Ministry of Finance regulation. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry noted that despite an increase in brands, electric motorcycle penetration remains below 1 percent, suggesting significant market growth potential.
