Indonesia lifts Pertamax price, cites global oil costs

The Indonesian government announced a rise in the price of Pertamax, the non‑subsidised grade of gasoline, effective 13 June 2026. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the increase is unavoidable because of higher world oil prices and exchange‑rate pressures, adding that the move is needed to protect the purchasing power of lower‑income households.

"We are exercising all alternatives. The important thing is to protect our brothers in the lower economic class," Lahadalia told reporters. He emphasized that subsidies will continue for the most vulnerable groups and that the price adjustment applies only to the non‑subsidised fuel, leaving subsidised gasoline and LPG unchanged. The policy aims to balance fiscal sustainability with consumer affordability amid volatile global energy markets.
