Indonesia maintains 4.5 million tons of rice reserves

Indonesia has established a significant lead in food security within Southeast Asia, with the state logistics agency Perum BULOG managing approximately 4.5 million tons of Government Rice Reserves (CBP). This stockpile is substantially larger than the buffer stocks reported by neighboring nations.

In comparison, Malaysia reported a national rice buffer stock of 200,000 tons as of August 2026, while the Philippines' National Food Authority (NFA) held an estimated 286,500 tons as of September 2026. Indonesia's reserves are approximately 22.5 times larger than Malaysia's and 15.7 times larger than the Philippines' estimated stock.

While Vietnam reported a record national food reserve procurement of 500,000 tons throughout 2025, this figure represents annual procurement rather than current total stock. Data for Thailand and Myanmar remains unconfirmed.
