Indonesia maintains electricity tariffs for Q3 2026

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, has decided to maintain current electricity tariffs for the third quarter of 2026 (July-September). This decision applies to both the 13 non-subsidized customer categories and the 24 subsidized categories, including social and low-income household sectors.

Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the freeze is intended to preserve public purchasing power, support industrial competitiveness, and maintain national economic stability amidst global dynamics. While macroeconomic parameters such as the rupiah exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Reference Coal Price (HBA) typically trigger tariff adjustments every three months, the government opted to keep rates steady.

In parallel with tariff stability, PT PLN (Persero) is advancing significant renewable energy infrastructure. Approximately 9.2 GW of hydropower (PLTA) and mini-hydro (PLTM) projects have entered various execution stages as of July 2026. This represents about 79 percent of the 11.7 GW capacity planned in the 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL). These projects involve collaboration between PLN and Independent Power Producers (IPP) to support Indonesia's energy transition and security.
