Indonesia maintains electricity tariffs while PLN expands service to Tagalaya Island

The Indonesian government has announced that electricity tariffs for PT PLN (Persero) will remain unchanged for the third quarter of 2026. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the decision to maintain current rates for both the 13 non-subsidized categories and 24 subsidized categories is intended to preserve public purchasing power and support national economic stability.

While standard tariff adjustments are typically calculated every three months based on macroeconomic parameters—including the Rupiah exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price, inflation, and coal reference prices—the government opted to freeze rates for the July-September period. This policy covers various sectors, including social, low-income households, small businesses, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In separate operational developments, PT PLN has achieved a 100 percent electrification ratio on Tagalaya Island in North Halmahera Regency. The utility provider has transitioned the island to 24-hour electricity service, aiming to improve quality of life and provide reliable energy for education and local business development in the archipelago region.
