Indonesia Minister expands home renovation aid to renters
Maruarar Sirait, the Indonesian Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, announced that low-income residents who rent homes are now eligible for the Bedah Rumah (home renovation) assistance program. This policy aims to support those in large cities, such as Jakarta, who are unable to afford home ownership and rely on continuous renting.
To prevent landlords from exploiting the improvements, the program requires owners to sign a statement promising that the tenant will remain in the property for three years following the renovation and that rent prices will not be increased. The initiative is part of a broader government effort to improve housing quality, with a target of renovating 400,000 housing units.
