Indonesia Ministry of Creative Economy reports rising cyber threats and high app investment

Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy (Kemenekraf) has reported a significant surge in cyber threats in 2026, specifically targeting domestic applications. During the Indonesia Application Summit (InApps) 2026 in Tangerang, Tri Wahyudi, Director of Applications at Kemenekraf, noted that the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) has observed these threats increasing several times over. To mitigate risks, the ministry is working with BSSN to teach developers cybersecurity fundamentals during the initial development phase rather than relying solely on post-development penetration testing.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized the importance of the application subsector, noting it recorded the highest investment value in Indonesia’s digital sector in 2025, totaling Rp 54.18 trillion out of a total digital investment of Rp 183.01 trillion. The government aims to foster collaboration between local developers, international investors, and partner nations to help Indonesian digital works expand from domestic markets to the global stage. Harsya highlighted that the application ecosystem is deeply interconnected with other creative sectors, including designers, animators, and musicians.
