Indonesia Ministry of Creative Economy targets regional expansion and blockchain integration

Indonesia's Ministry of Creative Economy is implementing strategies to expand the reach of local creative sectors through technology and regional market expansion.

Deputy Minister Irene Umar expressed support for Folkacommunal, a local platform, to bring community-based textile (wastra) fashion festivals to Malaysia and Singapore. The initiative includes the Pesta Folka festival in Jakarta and Singapore, and the Sukaria Market in Malaysia, aimed at increasing public awareness and connecting local brands with Southeast Asian consumers, particularly Gen Z.

Separately, Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized the role of blockchain technology in strengthening Indonesia's creative economy. Speaking at the Indonesia Blockchain Week Summit, the Minister noted that blockchain can enhance the management of Intellectual Property (IP) and create new business models. This integration aligns with the Creative Economy Master Plan 2026–2045, which expands the sector's scope to include emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, IoT, Web3, and cybersecurity.
