Indonesia Ministry of Education announces teacher status changes for 2027
The Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has announced significant policy changes regarding teacher employment status set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
According to Minister Abdul Mu'ti and Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel Nunuk Suryani, approximately 242,482 part-time PPPK (Government Employees with Work Agreements) teachers will be transitioned to full-time PPPK status. These teachers will become central government employees under the authority of Kemendikdasmen, with their salaries funded by the state budget (APBN).
Additionally, the Ministry addressed the status of non-ASN (honorary) teachers. Minister Mu'ti confirmed that approximately 172,000 active non-ASN teachers registered in the Dapodik database will have the opportunity to participate in the 2027 CPNS (Civil Servant Candidate) selection process. The Minister emphasized that there will be no layoffs for those who fail the CPNS exam; they will retain their status as non-ASN teachers. The government is currently working on stronger legal regulations to ensure job security for these educators beyond mere ministerial circulars.
