Indonesia Ministry of Education oversees second wave of academic assessments

The Indonesian Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has strengthened coordination and supervision for the second wave of the Academic Competency Test (TKA) for high school and vocational students. On the first day of this wave, approximately 1.33 million students participated in the Indonesian language subject assessment.

Deputy Minister Atip Latipulhayat emphasized the need for rapid response and coordination between central and local governments to address technical issues and maintain assessment integrity. Special attention is being given to schools in island regions, such as the Riau Islands province, where geographic limitations and connectivity challenges pose difficulties for monitoring and infrastructure.

Legislator Ledia Hanifa Amaliah from Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives has called for a thorough evaluation of alleged cheating during the assessments. She noted that the TKA should serve as a tool to reflect on the quality of teaching and school environments rather than a target for manipulation. Officials clarified that the TKA is not a requirement for graduation but is intended to improve the learning process.
