Indonesia Ministry of Higher Education launches new educational reforms

Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) is implementing new initiatives to modernize the country’s educational landscape and improve resource management.

To increase the relevance of higher education to the workforce, the ministry is promoting micro-credentials. Beny Bandanadjaja, Director of Learning and Students, stated that these credentials allow students to master specific competencies through concise, targeted learning units. The ministry has released a standardized guidebook to ensure quality assurance and consistent governance across universities.

Simultaneously, the ministry is launching SatuBeasiswa, an integrated information platform designed to centralize scholarship data. Minister Brian Yuliarto explained that the platform aims to prevent the duplication of aid, ensuring that students do not receive multiple scholarships while others receive none. While the government has allocated over Rp15 trillion for scholarships, SatuBeasiswa will function as a database to connect various providers—including local governments, corporations, and philanthropic organizations—with applicants to improve transparency and accountability.
