Indonesia higher education reform and scholarship expansion

Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) is implementing reforms to modernize the national educational landscape and improve resource management.

A central component of these reforms is the launch of ‘SatuBeasiswa Indonesia,’ a digital ecosystem and centralized national portal. The platform is designed to connect scholarship seekers with various providers, including central and local governments, industries, foundations, and international entities. Minister Brian Yuliarto stated that the platform aims to prevent the duplication of aid, ensuring transparency and accountability for the over Rp15 trillion allocated for scholarships.

In addition to scholarship centralization, the ministry is promoting micro-credentials to increase the relevance of higher education to the workforce. This initiative allows students to master specific competencies through targeted learning units, supported by a standardized guidebook to ensure quality assurance across universities. Complementing these government efforts, private sector initiatives, such as the ‘Beasiswa Pendidikan Tinggi McD’ at IPB University, continue to provide targeted support for economically disadvantaged students.
