Indonesia Ministry of Social Affairs ensures independent selection for National Disability Commission

Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono has affirmed that the Ministry of Social Affairs is only responsible for forming and facilitating the selection process for members of the National Disability Commission (KND) for the 2026–2031 period.

Speaking at a public testing event in Jakarta, Priyono emphasized that the ministry does not determine which candidates are selected. He noted that the KND is an independent non-structural institution mandated by Law Number 8 of 2016 to monitor, evaluate, and advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities.

Under Presidential Regulation Number 68 of 2020, the President delegates the formation of a selection committee to the Minister of Social Affairs. Priyono stated that the ministry respects the autonomy of the selection committee, which is tasked with establishing its own procedures to ensure a process that is honest, transparent, and free from external interests.
