Indonesia Ministry of Social Affairs welfare initiatives

Overview

Deputy Social Minister Agus Jabo Priyono has highlighted several initiatives aimed at improving social welfare and institutional transparency in Indonesia.

In late October, Priyono advocated for increased collaboration to address poverty and child welfare. He urged the Muhammadiyah organization to use its educational network to support the estimated 4.1 million school-aged children who are currently out of school or have dropped out. During this period, he also inaugurated the ‘Sae’ Taman Anak Sejahtera in Surakarta, a facility providing early childhood education, nutritional support, and health monitoring for vulnerable families.

By early November, the focus shifted to the selection process for the National Disability Commission (KND) for the 2026–2031 term. Priyono clarified that while the Ministry of Social Affairs facilitates the formation of the selection committee, the ministry does not determine the final candidates. He emphasized that the KND is an independent institution and stated that the ministry respects the autonomy of the committee to ensure a transparent process free from external interests.
