Indonesia monitors environmental impact of Free Nutritious Meal program
Indonesia's Ministry of Environment is preparing to monitor wastewater quality from Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) to ensure the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program does not cause environmental pollution. Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono visited an SPPG in Palembang to review waste management practices, noting that the facility converts food scraps into compost and separates organic and inorganic waste.
Meanwhile, in South Nias, questions have arisen regarding the oversight mechanisms for the MBG program. Local officials have directed citizens to report issues directly to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) via email or the SAGI 127 channel, as the regional coordination office is still being established. There are ongoing calls for clearer definitions of authority between regional coordinators and the BGN to ensure public complaints are effectively addressed.
