Indonesia National Nutrition Agency updates Free Nutritious Meal program
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is transitioning its Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program to a second phase, known as MBG 2.0. This phase focuses on strengthening food quality, governance, and service effectiveness rather than just expanding the number of beneficiaries. Key initiatives include the digital integration of local supply chains through the Loka MBG system to improve distribution efficiency and support local food sovereignty. Additionally, the agency is developing human resources through the Patriot Gizi program, involving graduates to act as food safety educators and impact data collectors.
Regarding operational challenges, BGN spokesperson Tysa Novenny addressed issues where operational funds for Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) were not being released to virtual accounts. The agency identified three primary causes for these delays: failure to submit daily expenditure reports via the National Nutrition Fulfillment Information System (SIPGN), discrepancies between actual beneficiaries and established data, and undisciplined budget management leading to exhausted funds. BGN emphasized that strict adherence to administrative reporting and data accuracy is required to ensure funds are disbursed and the program remains targeted.
