Indonesia navigates new diplomatic challenges for Palestine

Indonesia is facing new diplomatic challenges following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's rejection of a Palestinian state. This shift requires Indonesia to move beyond external advocacy and engage more deeply within political negotiation processes to seek a credible path toward Palestinian self-determination.

A proposed roadmap for 2026 links the cessation of conflict, the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and Palestinian governance with reconstruction and security. However, disagreements persist regarding the sequence of events, specifically whether Hamas must be disarmed before Israeli troops withdraw.

In a related development, Jakarta has been established as the Asia-Pacific headquarters for the Asia Pacific Coalition for Quds and Palestine (APCQP). Launched at the Indonesian House of Representatives, this hub aims to consolidate civil society efforts across the region to strengthen humanitarian coordination, advocacy, and aid distribution for residents in Gaza, the West Bank, and Quds.
