Indonesia plans Housing Development Acceleration Agency
The Indonesian government is preparing to establish a Housing Development Acceleration Agency to address the national housing backlog and meet the target of constructing 3 million homes. Vice Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Fahri Hamzah, stated that the concept for the agency has been developed by adopting models from several other countries.
The formation of the agency is currently awaiting the ratification of a Presidential Regulation (Perpres). Discussions within the cabinet are ongoing to determine the specific model for the agency, as multiple implementing institutions currently exist. The initiative was driven by the absence of a national social security system (SJSN) specifically for the housing sector.
