Indonesia Police Bust Motorbike Theft Rings Targeting Weddings

Police in Binjai, North Sumatra, arrested a 19‑year‑old suspect identified as D on May 22 after he resisted arrest. He is accused of stealing a Honda Beat motorcycle on April 25 and is linked to a second theft. Officers seized a T‑shaped key, two key blanks, clothing items and a mobile phone before taking the suspect to hospital and then to the police station for further investigation.

In Serang, Banten, police captured a couple – 41‑year‑old JM and his 28‑year‑old partner DA – on May 20 while they attempted to steal motorcycles at a wedding celebration. The pair admitted to stealing vehicles from 15 locations across the province, specifically targeting crowded events. Authorities recovered four stolen Honda motorcycles, four mobile phones and a T‑shaped key, and detained the suspects for prosecution. Both operations were carried out by local police units (Cobra team in Binjai and Satreskrim in Serang).
