Indonesia Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo Sets Rules for Police Placement in Civil Posts
Police chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo clarified that active members of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) may be assigned to civilian ministries only when a specific request is made by the ministry and the appointment is approved by the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (Kemenpan‑RB). The process must follow open‑bidding or merit‑based selection, ensuring that police officers are placed in roles related to law‑enforcement, security, or public service.
He also explained that the recent revision of the Police Law removed a fixed list of 17 ministries that could employ active police officers, shifting the criteria to functional relevance. Complementing this, Prabowo said that civil servants (ASN) can occupy certain non‑operational positions within Polri, citing three senior officers serving in the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections as examples of reciprocal appointments.
