Indonesia police name two suspects in Assembagoes sugar factory corruption

Indonesia’s anti‑corruption unit, Kortastipidkor, has identified two suspects in a major graft case involving the Engineering Procurement Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) project to modernise the Assembagoes sugar factory in Situbondo, East Java. The investigation found a state loss of approximately Rp645 billion, as reported by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).

The suspects are DPP, former director of state‑owned PTPN XI (2015‑2017), and TD, director of PT Multinas Indonesia. Prosecutors allege they manipulated the procurement process, steering the contract to the Wika‑Barata‑Multinas consortium despite the firms not meeting required standards, and inflated the estimated price without technical justification. Payments covering 99.3 % of the contract were made, yet the work failed to meet contractual performance and commissioning was not completed. Police have seized electronic devices and documents from several offices, examined 93 witnesses and three experts, and will trace assets to recover the losses.
