Indonesia poultry and beef prices remain high for consumers
High protein food prices, specifically chicken and beef, continue to impact traders and consumers in Indonesia. At Kebayoran Lama Market, chicken meat is priced between Rp 45,000–50,000 per bird or Rp 55,000 per kg, while beef remains high at Rp 140,000–150,000 per kg. Traders report that these elevated costs have led to a decrease in buyers.
Data reveals a significant discrepancy between producer and consumer pricing for broiler chicken. While the price at the producer level has dropped to approximately Rp 23,458 per kg—falling 6.17% below the producer price reference (HAP)—consumer prices remain above the government's retail reference. In the first week of October 2026, the average consumer price was roughly Rp 40,501 per kg, which is 0.33% above the consumer HAP of Rp 40,000 per kg. The Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) noted that 217 regencies and cities have experienced increases in the Price Development Index for chicken meat.
