Indonesia prepares electric motorcycle incentives for Alva and Gesits

The Indonesian government is developing an incentive scheme for the National Electric Motorcycle Program (MoLiNas), which aims to challenge the dominance of conventional gasoline motorcycles. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that the budget is available, though the specific implementation scheme is still being finalized.

Two domestic electric motorcycle brands, Alva and Gesits, have been identified as recipients of these upcoming incentives. The program is viewed by observers as a critical intervention to lower prices and strengthen the domestic industry, though experts emphasize that successful distribution must extend beyond urban areas to rural regions and small islands.

While the program seeks to transition the market, some concerns have been raised regarding the potential for electric motorcycles to shift emissions without addressing traffic congestion, suggesting a simultaneous need for improved public transportation.
